Sego Condor 108 — Review

The Sego Condor 108 is a directional big-mountain charger from Sego Ski Co., the boutique brand hand-building skis in Victor, Idaho. Everything about it is organised around one idea: a very long turn radius. Across its four lengths the Condor 108 runs a 24, 26, 28 and 30 metre radius, paired with a straight 132/108/122 mm sidecut. This is not a quick, snappy freeride ski — it is a GS-style face charger that wants big, open, high-speed arcs, and it happens to be light enough to occasionally follow you into the backcountry.

Point the Condor 108 down a big, open face and it comes alive. The long 24-30m radius, the modest tip and tail rise and the directional camber all conspire to keep the ski planted, quiet and utterly composed at speed. In variable, chopped-up and wind-affected snow it stays calm where twitchier skis start to deflect, and the 108mm waist gives enough float for soft resort snow and spring corn without turning the ski into a pure powder plank. The balsa/Titanal/carbon layup damps chatter so the tips never wander, and because the moderate weight keeps swing weight in check, the ski still feels manageable when you finally do slow down. What it rewards is commitment: stand on it, let it run, and roll it onto a long edge, and it holds a clean, high-speed line as well as anything in the class.

Sego build the Condor 108 around a poplar wood core with balsa tip and tail inserts and a single Titanal stringer, wrapped in triaxial fiberglass and biaxial carbon fiber. The balsa lightens the ends to calm swing weight, while the Titanal stringer and carbon add torsional stiffness and damping through the body — that is what makes the long radius feel so stable rather than nervous. Underfoot sits a 1.4mm Durasurf 4001 sintered base that runs fast and holds wax, and burly 2.2mm edges for durability on firm snow and the odd rock. The 132/108/122 mm sidecut is deliberately straight, which is what produces the long 24-30m radii. Per length the weights are 1755g (175), 1825g (181), 1895g (187) and 1925g (192) per ski, with radii of 24, 26, 28 and 30m respectively — light enough that the moderate mass genuinely opens the door to backcountry use.

This is a ski for a strong, directional skier who likes to open up the throttle on big terrain and treat the whole mountain as a GS course. If you ski fast, in a straight-ish line, in variable snow, the Condor 108 is a natural one-ski quiver. Cross-shop it against the Nordica Enforcer 104, a metal-laminate all-mountain benchmark, and the Volkl Mantra 108, another damp directional charger — the Condor answers both with a longer, straighter radius and a lighter, more tour-friendly build. The K2 Mindbender 106c mens is the softer, more forgiving carbon-based alternative. Within Sego, step up to the Sego Condor 116 for more float, or drop to the Sego Comp 110 for a shorter-radius, more playful freeride feel.

Give it open terrain and speed and it is planted, quiet and hugely confident; the light balsa/Titanal/carbon build even lets it dabble in the backcountry. It asks for commitment and space in return, so tight-tree skiers and slow-speed cruisers should look elsewhere — but for the fast, directional pilot chasing big open arcs, few skis feel this composed.
