Sego Comp 110 — Review

The Sego Comp 110 is the do-most-things member of the big-mountain Comp line from Sego Ski Co., the boutique brand that hand-builds its skis in Victor, Idaho. Designed by Peter Wells, the Comp 110 sits at the heart of the range: 110mm of waist width for genuine float, paired with Titanal damping that keeps things composed when the snow turns rough and the speed climbs. This is a directional charger built to be driven hard, not a soft, forgiving all-mountain cruiser.

With a 140/110/131mm sidecut and a directional early-rise tip and tail over a cambered midbody, the Comp 110 reads clearly as a freeride tool. It wants an open face, a committed stance and a rider who leans on it. If that sounds like you, read on.

On snow the Comp 110 rewards a forward, aggressive stance. The Titanal inlay is the defining trait: it soaks up chatter, holds a line across variable and cut-up snow, and gives the ski a planted, high-speed calm that lighter builds simply cannot match. The Comp 110 is built on a poplar wood core with a Titanal inlay for damping and stability, wrapped in triaxial fiberglass for torsional strength. The base is a 1.4mm Durasurf 4001 sintered base for speed and durability, edges are a robust 2.2mm, and VDS rubber and UHMW sidewalls round out a serious, race-room-grade layup.

Specs, per length: 175cm weighs 2150g, 181cm 2200g, 187cm 2295g and 192cm 2350g per ski. Turn radius runs 16.5m (175), 18m (181), 19.5m (187) and 21m (192). The sidecut is a consistent 140/110/131mm across the range. These are heavy skis by design, and that mass is exactly where the stability comes from.

The Comp 110 is for the strong, directional skier who wants one hard-charging ski for open faces, variable snow and everything between soft and firm. It is not a touring ski and not a playful jib stick.
