The Steadfast DC 85 FDT is a versatile, groomer‑focused all‑mountain ski aimed at skiers who spend most of their time on piste but want enough capability for bumps, trees and occasional fresh snow. It skis with a playful character in short turns yet feels damped and secure at speed. The on‑piste rocker in tip and tail eases turn initiation and release, while camber underfoot maintains edge hold and rebound. Overall, it’s a balanced tool for daily resort skiing with a sporty edge.
Construction blends a performance wood core with a titanal layer and an elastomer layer in the Energy TI Double Core. Titanal delivers power and quick response; the elastomer soaks up vibration for a smoother ride. Sandwich/ABS sidewalls give reliable edge grip and durability. The rocker profile (tip/tail rocker with camber underfoot) means easier turn initiation with stable pressure underfoot. Spec notes: waist 84–85 mm is quick edge‑to‑edge; turn radius 13.7–15.8 m sets natural turn size; weight affects swing and stability; FDT plate and TPX12 binding add platform consistency.
On groomers the ski’s combination of rocker and metal makes it confident and fun. Short, playful turns come easily thanks to the rocker profile and relatively narrow waist, while the titanal layer provides the mid‑fat authority needed for cleaner carves and higher speeds. The sandwich sidewalls and FDT plate help maintain edge bite on hard snow without feeling overly harsh. Dampening from the elastomer keeps chatter under control in chopped conditions, which translates into a ski that’s comfortable for long piste days.
Off‑piste performance is competent but not specialized. With an 84–85 mm waist the ski handles light, windblown snow and soft cut‑up runs well and remains manageable in trees and tighter terrain. The elastomer layer helps absorb hits and reduces rider fatigue in variable snow. However, in deeper, low‑density powder the narrow waist limits flotation compared with wider all‑mountain or freeride skis, so expect to stay in shallower powder or shorter powder laps.
Who should buy it? This ski suits intermediate‑to‑advanced riders who prioritize groomer performance but value a forgiving, damped feel for mixed conditions. Potential drawbacks are the modest waist for deep powder days and a weight that’s heavier than dedicated lightweight models. Compared to alternatives like the Atomic Vantage 86 Ti or the Rossignol Experience 84 Ti, the Steadfast DC 85 FDT leans more playful with slightly better vibration control thanks to the elastomer layer.
