Overview

The Volkl Mantra 84 w is the new-for-26 narrowest entry in Volkl's women's Mantra line — 84 mm waist, Tailored Titanal Frame, Tailored Carbon Tips, MultiLayer Woodcore (Poplar/Beech) and 3D Radius Sidecut. It pairs the men's Mantra 84 chassis with women-specific frame tuning, aimed at sporty women who live on groomers but want freeride versatility on the side.

On-snow performance

The Mantra 84 w carves with the same authoritative feel as the men's Mantra 84, with the tuned-down Titanal Frame keeping smaller sizes manageable. The 11.9 m mid-body radius at 156 cm makes short to medium turns natural, while the 20.9 m tip radius adds stability when stretching the arc. Off-piste the 84 mm waist + Tailored Frame handles soft chop comfortably; deeper snow is beyond its brief.

Construction & specs explained

MultiLayer Woodcore (Poplar + Beech), Tailored Titanal Frame, Tailored Carbon Tips, Sintered Base, 3D Radius Sidecut, Rocker-Camber-Rocker profile. Sidecut 129 / 84 / 110 mm at 156 cm. Per-length 3D radius at 156: R1 20.9 m, R2 11.9 m, R3 19.4 m. Weight 1560 g per ski at 156 cm. Lengths 149 / 156 / 163 cm.

Who it's for & comparisons

A sporty intermediate-to-advanced woman who lives on piste but wants real freeride DNA. Compared to the men's Volkl Mantra 84 it has the same general chassis with women-specific Tailored Frame tuning. Against the Volkl Mantra 88 w it is narrower and a touch lighter, better for piste-dominant skiers. Compared to the Volkl Blaze 86 w the Mantra 84 w has full Titanal Frame authority that the Blaze can't match — pick the Blaze for less effort, the Mantra 84 w for piste authority.

Pros, cons and verdict

Pros

  • Full Tailored Titanal Frame for genuine carving authority.
  • 3D Radius Sidecut gives short and medium turns naturally.
  • 1560 g per ski at 156 cm is reasonable for the chassis class.
  • Three women-specific lengths from 149-163 cm.
  • Tailored Carbon Tips add torsional precision without overweight.

Cons

  • 84 mm waist limits true off-piste utility.
  • Demands a confident driver for the chassis to sing.
  • Three lengths only — taller skiers will need to size up to the men's line.
  • Heavier than Glass-Frame chassis (Yumi class).

Verdict: The Mantra 84 w is the right Volkl women's pick for piste-leaning skiers who want authoritative carving with a freeride-DNA chassis. Step up to the Mantra 88 w for more soft-snow capability; go to the Yumi 80 for an easier daily ski.
