Overview
The Transcend Alpha is the new junior ski in Kästle's Transcend freeride line for 2026/27, the youth version of the adult Kästle Transcend 98, Transcend 104 and Transcend 114. Kästle calls it "the ski of the next freeride generation" and builds it like a grown-up ski: a full wood core, full cap construction and an Armoclad topsheet. Its "robust twin rocker" is meant for kids who split their days between exploring off-piste terrain and riding the funpark. It comes in four lengths from 119 to 149 cm and is sold as a set with Kästle's K7.5 GW junior binding, either the JRS version on a JRS Base S or the SX version. Unusually, the waist is not fixed: it grows from 75 mm at 119 cm to 95 mm at 149 cm, so each length is closer to a different ski.
On-snow performance
On paper the Alpha should feel easy and playful. The short lengths have tight radii, 8 m at 119 cm and 10.2 m at 129 cm, which suits small skiers who make short, quick turns. The longer lengths open up to 12.4 m at 139 cm and 14 m at 149 cm, and at the same time get much wider underfoot, so a teenager on the 149 cm gets a 95 mm ski with real float in soft snow. The twin rocker profile should make the ski easy to pivot and to land, and the Hook Free shovel and tail are designed to keep the ski from catching in variable snow. The poplar core with a synthetic absorber layer should add some damping, so the ski stays calmer on chopped-up slopes than a very soft beginner ski. On hard, icy pistes the wide 149 cm version will take more effort to put on edge than the narrow short sizes.

Who it's for & comparisons
The Transcend Alpha is for confident young skiers, roughly from the age where they ride the whole mountain with their parents, who want a ski that handles both off-piste days and park laps. Because the width grows with length, the 149 cm version is the right choice for teenagers who already ski powder, while the 119 cm version is a narrow, quick all-round ski for smaller kids. The K2 Mindbender jr is the closest match in size run (119–149 cm) but keeps the same 84 mm waist and 12 m radius in every length, and the K2 Omen jr is a narrower 75 mm park-and-piste twin with a lighter cap build. When the skier outgrows the 149 cm, the adult Kästle Transcend 98 continues the line.
Pros, cons and verdict
Pros
- Full wood core and full cap construction, like an adult ski.
- Waist grows from 75 to 95 mm, so each length suits a different age and level.
- Twin rocker profile for both off-piste and park.
- Light weights from 760 g per ski at 119 cm.
Cons
- Only sold with a factory binding package, no flat version for touring setups.
- The 95 mm waist at 149 cm is a lot of width for a teenager who mainly skis hard pistes.
- Only four lengths, from 119 to 149 cm.
- A freeride shape is less precise on icy groomers than a junior carving ski.
Verdict: A well-built junior freeride ski that scales its width with length, from a quick 75 mm all-rounder at 119 cm to a 95 mm powder-capable ski at 149 cm. A strong pick for young skiers who want to follow their parents off the piste and into the park.
