Worldcup rebels xr review
Detailed review of the Head Worldcup Rebels XR: wood composite core, Power Sidewall Jacket, Allride Rocker. Feel, turns, pros, cons and specs.
Overview
The Worldcup Rebels XR is the entry model of Head's Race Ready line for 26/27: the iconic Rebels graphics at an entry-level price, built on a wood composite core with Head's Power Sidewall Jacket. It is sold as a system set on a pre-mounted PowerRail base with the PR 10 GW Promo binding as standard; the PR 11 GW and Protector EVO PR 11 GW are the optional upgrades. The sidecut is 128-74-112 mm in every length, and the radius runs from 8.3 m at 142 cm through 9.3 m (149), 10.3 m (156), 11.5 m (163) and 12.6 m (170) to 13.8 m at 177 cm. Head rates it On Piste / Advanced / Medium Speed / Short Radius and lists 2,020 g per ski without binding at 170 cm.
On-snow performance
Everything in the spec points to an easy-turning piste ski rather than a race ski in disguise. Allride Rocker gives the XR 20% tip rocker and 80% camber: the early-rise tip should start the turn with little effort and let the ski pivot and skid when you want it to, while the camber underfoot keeps edge grip on groomed snow. The radii are short — 8.3 to 13.8 m — so this is a ski for round, slalom-style turns at moderate speed, not for long GS arcs. The Power Sidewall Jacket wraps a fibre jacket around ABS sidewalls, which Head describes as giving smoother skiing with better shock absorption, stability and edge grip. Riders report wood composite cores in this price class as predictable and forgiving rather than snappy; on paper the XR should feel calm and controllable, and it will run out of backbone before an expert skier does.

Who it's for & comparisons
The XR is for progressing intermediate and advanced piste skiers who want a race-look carver that forgives mistakes, and for teenagers and lighter adults thanks to the 142 cm length. Inside the Rebels family, the metal-free Worldcup Rebels e.XSR (not reviewed yet) is the next step up with full camber and EMC damping; the titanal e.SLR and e.GSR are a different, far more demanding category. Against other brands, the Head Supershape e v5 (74 mm, 13 m at 170 cm, 1,845 g, Allride Rocker) is Head's own LYT all-rounder at a similar level; the Atomic Redster q7 (75 mm, 13.5 m at 168 cm, full camber) is the direct cross-shop in Atomic's range; and the Rossignol Forza 60 ti (75 mm, 13 m at 171 cm) is a tip-rockered alternative with a bit more power.
Pros, cons and verdict
Pros
- Allride Rocker and short radii make turn initiation easy at moderate speed.
- Wood composite core and Power Sidewall Jacket for a predictable, forgiving flex.
- Six lengths from 142 to 177 cm cover teenagers through tall adults.
- Entry-level price with a system binding included.
Cons
- No metal and a composite core: expert skiers will out-ski it quickly.
- Around 2 kg per ski before the binding is heavy for an entry-level piste ski.
- The PowerRail system binding limits binding choice.
- Short radii and a 74 mm waist are at home only on groomed pistes.
Verdict: The Rebels XR is a forgiving, race-styled piste carver at an entry-level price, best for intermediates who want to learn to carve on a calm, predictable ski. Skiers who already carve cleanly should look at the e.XSR or the Supershape e v5.
