Elan Wildcat 83 c — Review

The Elan Wildcat 83 C is a women-specific front-side all-mountain ski built around an 83 mm waist and Elan's W.Amphibio asymmetric rocker-camber profile. With lengths from 144 to 168 cm and tight 11.5–14 m turn radii, it is shaped for medium and short carves on groomed terrain, with enough width to step lightly off the trail when conditions allow. The C designation marks the carbon-reinforced, metal-free Wildcat — a lighter, more forgiving variant of the Wildcat 83 line aimed at intermediate skiers building toward advanced technique.

On firm groomers the W.Amphibio profile does the heavy lifting: the rockered outside edge eases turn initiation and softens the feel of overpowering, while the cambered inside edge keeps the running surface engaged through the arc. The tight per-length radii encourage short and medium carves rather than long, fast trenches, and the carbon-only laminate keeps the ski responsive and quick edge-to-edge. In soft chopped-up snow and on the margins of a piste it remains predictable rather than demanding — the trade-off is that it lacks the planted, damp feel of a titanal-laminated frontside ski when speeds get high or snow gets crusted.

The Wildcat 83 C uses a laminated woodcore with asymmetric UD (uni-directional) carbon reinforcement and SST slanted sidewall construction, all mounted on Elan's Shift X integrated plate (2.5–9.0 DIN range). There is no titanal in this version — that is reserved for the Ti and Black Edition siblings. The W.Amphibio profile is built into dedicated left and right skis, with the rocker outside and camber inside relative to each foot. Sidecut runs 129-130 / 81-83 / 108-111 from 144 to 168 cm; turn radius progresses 11.5 / 12.0 / 13.0 / 14.0 m. Elan does not publish a per-ski weight for this model.

It suits intermediate to advancing women skiers who spend most of their time on groomed pistes, want easy turn initiation, and prefer a lively, lighter ski over a heavily damped one. Compared to the Elan Wildcat 83 ti it is more forgiving and less demanding at speed because the titanal sheet has been replaced by carbon only. Against the Nordica Wild belle dc 84 it is narrower in personality — tighter radius, more frontside bias — where the Wild Belle DC pushes wider arcs and more off-piste versatility. Versus the Head Kore 87 Ti W it gives up some torsional rigidity and width for an easier, plate-mounted carving experience.
