Worldcup rebels e race pro review
Detailed review of the Head Worldcup Rebels e-Race Pro: wood core, aluminium alloy, phenolic sidewalls, EMC, 117-68-102 mm, 13–17 m. Feel, pros, cons.
Overview
The Worldcup Rebels e-Race Pro is the medium-radius model in Head's 26/27 Worldcup Rebels race-carver family: between the slalom e-SL Pro and the GS-oriented e-Speed Pro. Head aims it at advanced to expert skiers who want "full race ski characteristics" with "a focus on medium-sized turns", and says that a narrower tip shape makes it "easier to turn and less demanding than FIS-level models". The geometry is 117 mm tip, 68 mm waist and 102 mm tail in all five lengths (160–180 cm), with a radius of 12.9 m at 160 cm, 14.8 m at 170 cm and 16.8 m at 180 cm. It is sold as a set on a Worldcup plate with, by default, the Protector+ FF ST 16 GW binding.
On-snow performance
The spec sheet describes a ski that lives on hard, groomed snow and wants to be carved. With 100 % camber (Head lists 0 % rocker at tip and tail) and a 68 mm waist, the whole edge works from the first moment of the turn, and the 13–17 m radius range means it is neither a slalom ski that needs constant short turns nor a GS ski that needs a wide piste: on paper it should let a strong skier switch between medium and longer arcs at will. The construction is the full Worldcup Rebels recipe — wood core, aluminium alloy, Graphene, phenolic sidewalls and a Worldcup plate — so the ski should feel damp and planted at speed, with EMC piezo damping taking the chatter out of rutted or icy sections while, as Head puts it, "maintaining rebound energy". At 2,315 g per ski (170 cm, without binding) and with a race plate, it is not a light or forgiving ski; the "less demanding" is relative to FIS skis, not to recreational carvers.
Construction & specs explained
- Core: wood core (Head's Worldcup race construction).
- Metal: high-quality aluminium alloy layer for edge grip and stability.
- Graphene: Head's lightweight reinforcement in the layup.
- EMC: Energy Management Circuit with ceramic piezo plates front and rear, converting vibration into electrical energy to dampen the ski.
- Sidewalls: durable phenolic sidewalls, full-length sandwich build (the non-Pro e-Race uses ABS).
- Base: RD Race Structured UHM C base.
- Profile: Rebel Camber — 100 % camber, no rocker.
- Plate and binding: Worldcup plate, sold as a set with the Protector+ FF ST 16 GW (also offered with Freeflex ST 16, Freeflex ST 14 X, Protector+ FF 14 GW, Freeflex 14 GW or Freeflex 11 Race).
- Dimensions: 117-68-102 mm in every length.
- Radius: 12.9 m (160), 13.9 m (165), 14.8 m (170), 15.8 m (175), 16.8 m (180).
- Weight: 2,315 g per ski at 170 cm, without binding (Head's figure).
- Lengths: 160, 165, 170, 175, 180 cm.
Who it's for & comparisons
This is the Worldcup Rebel for strong piste skiers who do not want to commit to one turn shape: masters racers who train both disciplines, ex-racers, and expert carvers who want a race-plate ski for everyday piste days. Within Head's line, the Head Worldcup rebels e sl pro (68 mm, 10.5–13.7 m) is the short-turn specialist and the e-Speed Pro (65 mm, 18–22 m) the long-turn one; the e-Race (non-Pro) shares this ski's shape and radius but with ABS sidewalls, a lighter build and the Protector+ FF 14 GW. Outside Head, the Stockli Laser wrt pro (67 mm, 12.3–16 m) is the closest medium-radius race carver, the Nordica Dobermann multigara dc race (70 mm, 15–16.6 m) is the Italian multi-discipline answer, and the Fischer Rc4 noize st pro (66 mm, 11.5–13.5 m) sits on the shorter side of the same idea.
Pros, cons and verdict
Pros
- Full Worldcup Rebels construction: wood core, aluminium alloy, Graphene, phenolic sidewalls and EMC.
- 13–17 m radius covers medium and long arcs on one ski.
- Narrower tip shape for easier turn entry than FIS-level models.
- Worldcup plate and Protector+ FF ST 16 GW binding included.
Cons
- 2,315 g per ski plus plate and binding is a heavy set-up.
- Still a race ski: little forgiveness at low speed or in soft snow.
- Head's top price tier, the same as the e-Speed Pro.
- The set binding ties you to Head/Tyrolia race bindings.
Verdict: The e-Race Pro is the most versatile of Head's Pro race carvers: Worldcup construction and plate with a radius that suits both medium and long turns. If you only carve long arcs, the e-Speed Pro is the purer tool; if you want the same shape with less weight and a lower price, the e-Race.
