Overview

The Dobermann Multigara DC Dept is new for 26/27 and is the flagship of Nordica's Multi family of race carvers. Nordica describes it as a modified World Cup construction with a sporty sidecut and a moderate radius: 68 mm underfoot, 115.5-68-97.5 mm at 169 cm and 116.5-68-98.5 mm at 187 cm, with radii of 16, 17, 18 and 19.5 m across the four lengths. It is built on the Energy 2 Ti DC Dept construction, two Titanal sheets and a Pulse Core elastomer layer between two wood cores, and it comes on a 10 mm Marker World Cup Piston Plate. The product page lists the plate but no binding, so you pair it with a race binding of your choice.

On-snow performance

On paper this is a GS-flavoured carver for firm, prepared snow. Full camber, double Titanal and the Piston Plate all point the same way: hard edge engagement, strong rebound out of the turn and little tolerance for lazy technique. A 68 mm waist with a 16 m radius in the 169 cm should be quicker from edge to edge than a true GS ski, while the 19.5 m of the 187 cm is clearly meant for long, fast arcs. The Piston Plate is there to add damping and stiffness, so riders should expect a calm ski at speed and a rather serious one at low speed or in short, skidded turns.

Construction & specs explained

  • Construction: Energy 2 Ti DC Dept, Nordica's Double Core 2 Titanal layup with a Pulse elastomer layer between two wood cores, each reinforced with a Titanal sheet.
  • Materials listed: Performance Wood + Metal + Double Core + Sidewall + Carbon.
  • Sidewalls: phenolic, which Nordica says improves energy transmission and reduces friction on the snow.
  • Plate: Marker World Cup Piston Plate, 10 mm, for damping, stiffness and precision; no binding listed.
  • Profile: Full Camber.
  • Dimensions: 115.5-68-97.5 mm (169 cm) and 116.5-68-98.5 mm (187 cm).
  • Radius: 16 m (169), 17 m (175), 18 m (181), 19.5 m (187).
  • Weight: 3,320 g per pair at 169 cm and 3,880 g per pair at 187 cm, so about 1,660 and 1,940 g per ski.
  • Lengths: 169, 175, 181, 187 cm.

Who it's for & comparisons

This is a ski for expert piste skiers, masters racers and ex-racers who want World Cup-style construction without FIS geometry. In Nordica's own range it sits above the Nordica Dobermann multigara dc fdt, which shares the Double Core 2 Titanal build but has a 70 mm waist, 160–180 cm lengths, 14–16.6 m radii and an FDT plate with binding. The Nordica Dobermann gsr dc fdt is the closer GS cousin at 69 mm with 17.5–20.5 m radii. Outside Nordica, the Head Worldcup rebels e sl is the slalom-side alternative at 68 mm, the Atomic Redster x9s covers the same race-carve niche with a 65.5 mm waist, and the Rossignol Hero elite st ti is the 68 mm short-turn option.

Pros, cons and verdict

Pros

  • Double Titanal with Pulse Core elastomer for power, damping and edge hold.
  • 10 mm Marker World Cup Piston Plate for extra stiffness and precision.
  • Four lengths with a 16–19.5 m radius progression suited to fast, long carves.
  • Phenolic sidewalls and full camber for direct energy transfer.

Cons

  • No binding included; a race binding adds cost and weight.
  • Shortest length is 169 cm, so no option for lighter or shorter skiers.
  • Demanding at low speed and in short, skidded turns.
  • A groomer-only tool with no help in soft snow or bumps.

Verdict: The Multigara DC Dept is Nordica's race-room flagship for people who do not run gates: World Cup-style Double Core 2 Titanal, a Piston Plate and a 68 mm GS-leaning sidecut. If you want the same build with a binding included and shorter lengths, the Multigara DC Fdt is the easier buy.
