Majesty Superscout Carbon — Review

The Majesty Superscout Carbon is the ultralight, full-carbon version of Majesty's dedicated ski-mountaineering touring ski. It keeps the compact 84-85mm waist and the brand's 4x4 Design Concept — a 4Radius progressive sidecut paired with a 4Radius rocker line — but swaps the standard Superscout's fiberglass for a pure carbon-Kevlar layup. The payoff is weight: 1190 g per ski at 170 cm, versus 1320 g for the fiberglass Superscout. That is a genuine skimo-adjacent number for a ski this shape, and it defines the entire character of the ski. Add the Cut-Off-Tail (COT) design and a flat tail built for skins, and you have a purpose-built uphill machine rather than a do-everything touring ski.

On the up, this ski is the whole point. Low swing weight and a light overall mass make kick-turns effortless and long approaches far less punishing, and the flat tail seats and releases skins cleanly. On the down, the narrow 85 mm waist and the 16 m radius at 170 cm make it quick edge-to-edge and confident on firm, wind-affected, and refrozen snow — the conditions ski-mountaineers actually meet most days. The semi-hybrid front auto-rocker with underfoot camber gives it enough tip float to stay on top of soft dust and manageable crud, but this is not a powder tool: at 85 mm underfoot it sinks in deep snow and asks for an active, centered pilot. The carbon layup adds snap and rebound out of turns, but it also runs a touch less damp than the fiberglass Superscout, so at speed and in chopped-up crud it can feel busier underfoot and rewards a lighter, more precise touch.

The core is a paulownia and poplar blend — paulownia for low weight, poplar for a bit of backbone. Over it sits a biaxial carbon-Kevlar layup with no fiberglass at all, which is where the gram savings and the extra snap come from, and where the slightly livelier, less-damp feel originates. The base is an IS7200 fast sintered base for glide on long traverses. Sidecut at 170 cm is 124/85/104 mm with a 16 m radius; the ski comes in 154, 162, 170, 176 and 182 cm. Profile is a semi-hybrid front auto-rocker with camber underfoot and a flat, skin-friendly tail (COT). Weight is 1190 g per ski at 170 cm.

This is a specialist. It suits the weight-obsessed ski-mountaineer and long-tour skier who counts grams, links big vertical, and skis down efficiently rather than aggressively. If you want one ski for resort-plus-touring or for powder, look elsewhere. Against the Atomic Backland 85 it plays in the same narrow, firm-snow tourer class but leans lighter and snappier. The Dynafit Blacklight 88 and Armada Locator 88 are slightly wider and a bit more forgiving in mixed snow, trading a little uphill efficiency for downhill margin. Within Majesty's own range, the standard Majesty Superscout is heavier but damper and more composed at speed, while the Majesty Superwolf Carbon is the wider carbon tourer for those who want more float.

Just go in clear-eyed: the narrow waist and slightly livelier ride mean it is a specialist ski-mountaineering tool, not a soft-snow or do-everything option.
