Kästle Wave 74 — Review

The Wave 74 is the sport-leaning option in Kästle's TERRA women's line. Same 123/74/102 mm sidecut and 11.3 m radius as the unisex MX74 but built lighter (1,350 g vs 1,535 g per ski) with a Twin Core rather than the double-titanal sandwich of the MX line. Aimed at ambitious female skiers who want a real piste tool without the leg-strength tax of a full race-construction ski.

On hard groomers the Wave 74 finds an honest sweet spot. The Twin Core poplar/beech wood block plus Powerzone Sidewall give it more bite than most women's 74 mm carvers in the same price bracket, and the Fast Grip shovel and tail keep the ski locked through a full carved turn. At 1,350 g it stays manageable for a full day of laps and doesn't demand the forward-stance discipline of the MX74. Push it past about resort top-of-blue speed and the lighter lay-up starts to chatter where the MX would still hold.

Against the Volkl Yumi 80 the Wave 74 is narrower and more piste-committed, less playful in mixed snow.
