Kästle Sublime 88 — Review

The Sublime 88 is the centerpiece of Kästle's new all-mountain line — 88 mm under foot, 11.9 m radius (notably tight for this width), double titanal Twin Core construction, 1,762 g per ski at 173 cm. It shares the same wood and metal stack as the MX88 but swaps the MX's piste-locked tail for a Hook Free release. The intent is a one-quiver Kästle that holds an edge like a frontside ski but releases out of turns like a true all-mountain platform.

On groomers the Sublime 88 carves with the same edge bite as the MX88 — the double titanal Twin Core transfers pressure straight to a clean trench, and the 11.9 m sidecut keeps short arcs lively for an 88 mm ski. The difference from the MX shows up in mixed snow: where the MX88 punishes a lazy exit, the Sublime 88 releases through the back of the turn and lets you skid out if the snow goes weird. Tail rocker plus Hook Free means it can pivot at slower speeds the MX would not entertain. Push it through real chop at speed and the 1,762 g mass holds the line — this is not a light platform but it is a stable one.

Closest internal sibling is the Kästle MX88 — same construction, more piste-locked tail (Fast Grip instead of Hook Free) and Early Rise tip instead of progressive tail rocker. Cross-shop, the Head Kore 88 Ti is the Austrian rival at this width, lighter and less race-stiff. The Nordica Enforcer 88 is the Italian benchmark for this class; the Volkl Mantra 88 and Atomic Maverick 88 cti are mainstream German/Austrian alternatives.

Verdict: The right Sublime if you want a single Kästle that does piste mornings and mixed afternoons equally well. Best matched to advanced one-quiver skiers in Alpine terrain; lighter or less aggressive skiers will be happier on the Sublime 83.
