Kästle RX12 GS — Review

The RX12 GS is the long-radius half of Kästle's race flagship pair. Same Infini Core RACE wood block and double titanal sandwich as the SL but stretched out — 17.2 m at 178 cm, 68 mm under foot, 1,715 g per ski. It is built for skiers who want to lay one continuous arc the length of a black run rather than chop it up into short slalom turns.

On a freshly groomed black piste at speed, this is the kind of ski that disappears underneath you in the best possible way. Once locked onto an edge the double titanal and full sandwich sidewall hold a line through any chatter the surface throws up, and the Hollowtech Race forebody keeps the tip glued at speeds where lesser race carvers start washing out. Initiation is deliberate — you have to commit a real angle to make it bend — but once bent the rebound out of the apex is enormous. Anything below carving speed feels heavy and reluctant.

Sandwich construction with full race sidewall. Infini Core RACE wood — poplar and beech — between two full titanal sheets, plus the carbon-glassfiber wound layer for torsional rigidity. Hollowtech Race tip, Armoclad topsheet, metal tip protector. Standard camber with Fast Grip shovel and tail. Factory bevels 88° side and 0.6° base. Lengths 168 / 173 / 178 / 183 cm; measured 1,715 g per ski at 178 cm.

Closest cross-shop is the Stockli Laser gs fis — both are Alpine-boutique GS race platforms with double titanal and similar weight. The Atomic Redster g9 is the World-Cup-flavoured rival, slightly more demanding at low speed.
