RX12 Alpha review

Overview

The RX12 Alpha is Kästle's youngest race option — a junior carver aimed at mini racers and lightly advanced kids transitioning from learner skis into proper edge work. It runs from 100 cm to 150 cm, weighs just 595 g per ski at 130 cm, and uses a Symbio Core Light wood/synthetic-absorber construction inside a full cap shell. Geometry is tight (102/67/88 mm, 6.4 m radius) so it actively wants to turn on small slopes rather than fight a child's weight.

On-snow performance

On a green or blue run the Alpha responds to almost any edge input — the 6.4 m sidecut bends through short arcs at low speed and the light cap construction keeps it easy to roll from edge to edge. The Fast Grip is absent here; the Hook Free shovel and tail let kids skid out of a bad line without catching, which is the right call for a learner-to-racer ski. It does not have the bite of an adult RX12, but it tracks well enough that a U10/U12 can start working on real angles and a clean inside ski.

Construction & specs explained

Full cap construction with Symbio Core Light — poplar/beech with a synthetic absorber to damp vibration on icy gates. Standard camber with Hook Free shovel and tail for forgiving entry/exit. Side bevel 88°, base bevel 1° from the factory (slightly more forgiving than the adult 0.6°). Lengths 100 / 110 / 120 / 130 / 140 / 150 cm. Measured weight 595 g per ski at 130 cm. Pairs with K4.5 JRS GW or K7.5 JRS GW junior bindings.

Who it's for & comparisons

Closest direct competitors are the Head WCR e sl rebel team junior and Head Worldcup e race team junior, both proper junior race platforms. Against the Head Worldcup e race team jrs the Alpha is a touch more forgiving on bad inputs. The Italian alternative in this class is the Nordica Dobermann combi pro s (jr 4.5 fdt).

Verdict: Strong junior race platform for U8-U12 racers on dry-snow trainers or club courses. Forgiving enough to learn on, sharp enough to make real progress with. Most other juniors will be better served by a wider all-mountain ski.
