The X9S Retro ARC 735 RS is a race‑inspired frontside carver aimed at strong intermediates through experts who live on firm groomers. It blends slalom-like quickness with GS stability, letting you link short fall‑line zippers or longer arcs without feeling locked to one rhythm. Retro graphics hide thoroughly modern tech, and the stance feels classic: powerful camber, long effective edge, precise feedback. If you prefer clean, high‑edge‑angle turns and a damp, planted feel over loose, smeary playfulness, this is squarely in your lane. It rewards good technique and returns energy when driven.
On snow, the ski grips early, builds pressure smoothly, and finishes turns with authority. Edge‑to‑edge is rapid thanks to the 65.5 mm waist, and the multi‑radius sidecut transitions naturally between short and medium‑long arcs. Compared with pure slalom sticks, it’s calmer at 50–70 km/h and less twitchy in variable groomer texture. Compared with wider frontside carvers, it is quicker and more precise on hardpack but less tolerant of skid‑steering. It prefers firm, consistent surfaces; in late‑day push piles it stays composed, yet the narrow platform can submarine if you relax your stance.
Build quality feels race‑room adjacent. The Ultra Power Woodcore gives a stout, continuous platform, while the TI Powered layer adds torsional stiffness and top‑end stability. Ultrawall sidewalls transmit pressure cleanly to the edges and contribute to bite on ice. Some markets list Revoshock S in this model; the on‑snow sensation is low vibration and fast rebound when you release the edge, more “accelerative” than muted. The base finish is quick out of the wrapper, and the topsheet is durable. Overall, the ride is damp without being dead, with a notably quiet shovel at speed.
Key specs shape its character. Active Camber 0/100/0 means full camber and a long effective edge for maximum grip; there’s essentially no rocker to loosen the tip or tail, so technique matters. Dimensions in 175 cm are 114‑65.5‑99.5 mm with a 15.2 m radius: a narrow waist for rapid transitions, moderate tip/tail to engage early yet release cleanly. Stated weight is about 3242 g per ski at 175 cm, contributing to calmness on hard snow. Lengths 167/175/183 let you tune turn shape and stability: shorter is quicker and more reactive; longer is smoother at speed.
Choose length by speed and terrain: most advanced skiers will land on 175 cm for mixed short/medium arcs; lighter or tight‑trail riders can drop to 167; bigger, faster skiers should pick 183. Many retailers package it with I 12 GW bindings; check whether listed weights include or exclude bindings and confirm DIN range. Detune contact points lightly if you find it hooky, but keep a sharp tune to preserve its defining edge hold. Potential drawbacks are the narrow waist off-piste and a demanding camber profile; skiers wanting more forgiveness may prefer a 70–74 mm carver.
