1000 skis AM — Review

The 1000skis AM (All-Mountain) is the do-it-all mid-fat in the Swedish boutique brand's four-model line, built at the Åre Ski Factory on 100% hydroelectric power. At 106 mm underfoot with a poplar wood core and pre-preg fibreglass construction, it sits firmly in modern all-mountain freeride territory — wider than a typical 99-mm all-mountain ski, narrower than a dedicated powder board, with the brand's freestyle DNA giving it a more playful feel than typical metal-laminate 106s.

Sidecut radii of 15 m at 161 cm climbing to 21 m at 186 cm cover the full range from tighter resort lines to longer big-mountain arcs. The poplar core and no-metal lay-up keep the AM lighter and more pivot-friendly than charging 106s like the Head Kore 106 Ti, while still giving enough underfoot stiffness for sustained edge work. Weight per single ski ranges from 1720 g (161 cm) to 2067 g (186 cm) — middleweight for a 106, not specifically tour-light but not anchored either.

The AM uses a poplar wood core in a pre-preg fibreglass lay-up — no metal laminate, which is what produces the more forgiving flex and lighter swing weight compared to titanal 106s. Sustainability is built in: ~50% bio-based topsheet plus 10% recycled, 26% recycled steel edges, Mountain Flow bio wax, and ~28.8 kg CO2 per pair offset via tree planting. Manufactured entirely in Sweden at the Åre Ski Factory on 100% hydropower.

The AM fits intermediate-to-advanced skiers who want a single playful all-mountain freeride ski and value light swing weight and a touch of freestyle flair over outright hard-snow stability. Compared to the Head Kore 106 Ti it gives up metal-laminate stability for more playfulness; against the Black crows Atris it has a similar freeride waist with slightly more directional bias; the Nordica Unleashed 108 is a comparable freestyle-friendly 106-class alternative.
