Overview

The Salomon Icon 10 is the entry model of Salomon's Icon race binding family, built for young racers taking their first steps into competition. Salomon pairs a V-shaped toe piece, which it says increases power transmission underfoot by up to 30% and relieves up to 15% of pressure at the tip and tail, with a full-flat race pedal and steel reinforcements in the toe and heel. The Icon family is not new for 26-27: Icon models were already on sale in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, and Atomic sells bindings under the same Icon names. Retailers list the 26-27 Icon 10 under style number L49286600.

Who is it for?

  • Junior and youth racers entering club or FIS-level racing; one retailer lists a recommended skier weight of 30-60 kg.
  • Skiers whose release value falls inside DIN 3-10.
  • Narrow race and race-carve skis that work with a 75 mm brake.
  • Not for GripWalk boots: the sources list adult alpine soles (ISO 5355) only.
  • Not a touring binding.

Specs and what they mean

  • Type — junior/development race binding: A fixed-heel alpine binding with a flat race pedal for direct boot-to-ski contact. Built for gates, not for walking.
  • DIN 3-10: Covers the release values of most junior racers and many lighter adults. A certified technician sets the value from weight, height, age, boot sole length and skier type.
  • Elastic travel — not published: Salomon describes an elastic toe base that automatically adapts toe height to new or worn boot soles, but gives no millimetre figure for elasticity.
  • Brake width 75 mm: The only brake listed. It matches skis with a waist up to about 75 mm, which covers most junior slalom and giant slalom skis.
  • Weight ≈1180-1190 g per binding: Two retailers list 1190 g per binding and a French gear guide lists 1180 g. That is roughly 270 g more than the Salomon Strive 10; the extra mass comes from the steel reinforcements that stiffen the binding.
  • Compatibility — ISO 5355 alpine (adult): Retailers list a sole length range of 252-315 mm, which fits junior race boots and smaller adult boots.
  • Materials: Glass-fiber reinforced polyamide with steel reinforcements in the toe and heel, and a stand height of 14.5 mm.

On-snow performance

Salomon's design goal is rigidity and a short path from boot to edge. The V-shaped toe and the full-flat pedal keep the boot centred over the binding, and the 14.5 mm stand height keeps the foot close to the ski for feedback on hard snow. For a young racer, that means the binding transmits what the boot does without adding play. As with any race binding, the release value carries the safety function: a technician sets it, and nobody should crank it up to stop pre-releases without a proper check of forward pressure and the toe-height fit.

Durability and service

Steel toe and heel reinforcements are the right choice for a binding that will see gate training, ruts and ice. The elastic toe base compensates for wear on the boot sole, but race boot soles still wear quickly: replace worn sole pads and have the release values checked at the start of each season and after any crash.

Mounting and brake sizing

Salomon's general brake rule is a brake width equal to the ski waist or at most 15 mm wider. With only a 75 mm brake on offer, the Icon 10 suits waists of roughly 60-75 mm. Salomon places the mounting screws under the boot to concentrate power transfer; if the ski has a race plate, the shop must confirm the plate accepts the Icon screw pattern before drilling.

Comparisons

The Atomic Icon 10 is Atomic's binding under the same name and matches it on DIN range, the 75 mm brake and weight in our catalog, so price and availability decide. The Marker Comp 10 tcx covers the same DIN 3-10 window with an 85 mm brake, which fits slightly wider skis. The Fischer Rc4 z9 starts lower (DIN 2-9), is lighter at around 755 g and accepts GripWalk soles, so it suits smaller children. Racers who outgrow DIN 10 can step up to the Salomon Icon 12 GW.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Does the Icon 10 work with GripWalk boots? A: The sources list adult alpine soles (ISO 5355) only, not GripWalk. If the racer uses GripWalk soles, look at the Salomon Icon 12 GW instead.

Q: What skis can I mount it on? A: Skis with a waist up to about 75 mm, because 75 mm is the only brake width listed. That covers most junior SL and GS skis.

Q: Is the Icon 10 new for 26-27? A: No. The Icon 10 was already listed for 2025-26, and the 26-27 product copy describes the same V-shaped toe, flat race pedal and steel reinforcements.

Q: Can an adult use it? A: The DIN 3-10 range and the 252-315 mm sole length range fit many lighter adults, but Salomon designed it for young racers. A certified technician decides from the skier's release value and boot.
