The Alp Tracks 84 is an ultralight speed-touring ski designed in Switzerland for fast approaches and efficient descents. Its narrow 84 mm waist and purposeful layup prioritize low weight and direct feedback, making it a favorite for long missions and steep, technical lines where efficiency matters. You get a ski that climbs effortlessly and still offers confident tracking on descent, striking a rare balance between uphill economy and downhill control. It’s not a playful resort ski, but for its category it feels mature, refined and race-minded without being overly nervous.
Construction mixes an ultralight paulownia core with high-density carbon laminates and a carbon cap, plus double-plate reinforcement at the mount zone and a cork tip spacer for damping. That stack gives surprising torsional stiffness for its weight class, translating into clean edge grip and stability at speed while keeping grams to a minimum. Manufacturer weights list roughly 950–1,140 g per ski across sizes; retailer measurements are often slightly lower. The build is designed to tolerate tech bindings and repeated mountings, which is reassuring for serious users.
On snow the camber underfoot with tip rocker provides reliable edge hold on hard snow and easy turn initiation, while a relatively narrow platform favors quick transitions and energetic carves. The carbon reinforcement keeps the ski composed at higher velocities and on choppy, wind-affected surfaces, but the 84 mm waist limits flotation in deep powder. Overall the Alp Tracks 84 feels precise and confidence-inspiring on mixed alpine terrain and steep couloirs, and it rewards committed edging and good technique.
Key specs and what they mean: tip/waist/tail (113–116 / 84 / 97–100 mm across lengths) determine turn initiation, edge bite and flotation — narrower waists mean faster edge-to-edge response but less float in soft snow. Turn radius (≈19.0–20.5 m) indicates a medium-to-long turn character suited to open slopes and faster linking. Weight (roughly 890–1,140 g per ski depending on listing) affects uphill efficiency and fatigue. Rocker + camber mixes pop and grip; sintered P-Tex base boosts glide and durability. Double-plate reinforcement improves mounting reliability.
Who should buy it and how it compares: the Alp Tracks 84 targets experienced ski tourers, skimo racers and fast-hikers who need a light, descent-capable ski. Compared to wider backcountry skis it sacrifices flotation for uphill speed and snappier edge-to-edge agility. Against other ultralights it stands out with Swiss build quality and robust reinforcement for bindings. Downsides include limited powder performance and less forgiveness for heavy skiers or playful all-mountain use. Pair with a light tech binding and narrow synthetic or mohair skins for best results.
