K2 Mindbender 96 — Review

The Mindbender 96 is the mid-fat pillar of K2's 26-27 Mindbender collection, positioned as the do-everything 96 mm all-mountain ski that replaces both the outgoing 96C and 99Ti in a single, more directional shape. Verified sidecut is 135-96-122 mm across all four lengths (168, 173, 178, 183 cm), with a 20 m radius at 183 cm and roughly 2000 g per single ski at that length (16 m radius at 168 cm). Construction is Aspen-Paulownia wood core, Titanal I-Beam reinforcement, Dark Matter damping and Bio-Resin — K2's new 26-27 platform across the whole Mindbender family.

At 96 mm underfoot with a 20 m radius in the 183 cm length, the Mindbender 96 leans into medium-to-long turns on groomed snow and holds a line at speed. The Titanal I-Beam gives strong on-edge grip on hardpack — closer in behavior to the outgoing 99Ti than the more forgiving 96C — while Dark Matter damping keeps chatter down without adding the mass of a full titanal sheet. In off-piste terrain the 96 mm waist floats up to boot-top depth but the shape is more directional than surfy, so tail-driven pivots take deliberate technique. In light chop the ski tracks stable rather than lively.

Core is Aspen-Paulownia with Titanal I-Beam over the edges (not full sheet) plus Dark Matter TPU damping pucks at contact points. Bio-Resin holds flex consistency in cold conditions. Sidecut is 135-96-122 mm across all four lengths (168, 173, 178, 183 cm) with a per-length radius progression of 16.0 / 17.0 / 18.0 / 20.0 m. Rocker profile is K2's All-Terrain Rocker with a longer, lower tip rise than the outgoing generation to enhance pivoting. Base is sintered.

Compared to the Head Kore 94 Ti the Mindbender 96 is slightly wider and damper, with more titanal-driven edge feel and less carbon-driven snap. Against the Nordica Enforcer 99 the Mindbender is a touch lighter and more agile in tight terrain but gives up some plow-through authority. Compared to the new Icelantic Torrent 96 the Mindbender is markedly damper — the Torrent uses V12 Carbon Matrix in place of titanal, so the two skis represent different construction philosophies at the same waist.
