Racetiger src review
Detailed review of the Völkl Racetiger SRC: 73 mm slalom carver, Titanal Band, tip rocker, vMotion 11 GW system. Feel, turns, pros, cons and specs.
Overview
The Racetiger SRC is Völkl's slalom-shaped piste carver for 26/27, sitting below the full-titanal Racetiger SL in the Racetiger family. Völkl calls it a 100% on-piste slalom ski: 124-73-103 mm in every length, a tip rocker and five lengths from 153 to 173 cm with radii from 12.0 m to 15.8 m. It is a system ski — the vMotion 3 GW interface is pre-mounted and the Marker vMotion 11 GW binding is included — and the construction uses a wood core, a Titanal Band and a full sidewall with mini-cap rather than two full metal sheets. At 73 mm underfoot it is the widest slalom-type ski in the Racetiger line, which is exactly what makes it more approachable than the SL.
On-snow performance
On paper the SRC is built for short and medium carved turns on groomed snow. The 12.0 m radius at 153 cm and 15.8 m at 173 cm cover classic slalom shapes, while the tip rocker — only the shovel lifts, camber stays through the middle and tail — should make turn initiation quicker and more forgiving than a full-camber race ski. The single Titanal Band gives damping and edge grip without the locked-in stiffness of a double-titanal construction, so the ski should feel lively rather than heavy, and the 73 mm waist gives more stability in soft or cut-up piste snow than a 65–68 mm slalom ski. Völkl ships it with a 1.4° base and 87.6° side tune. With the vMotion plate and binding the per-ski weight is listed at 2560 g (153 cm) to 3130 g (173 cm), so it is not a light package; that mass is what keeps it calm at speed. Off-piste, in powder or in the park it has little to offer — this is a piste tool.
Construction & specs explained
- Core: Woodcore — Völkl describes a special PU construction with a wooden core in the ski body.
- Metal: Titanal Band — a sporty titanal layup for damping and reliability while keeping the weight moderate.
- Sidewall: Full Sidewall / Mini Cap — full sidewall with an overlapping mini-cap for durability.
- Profile: Tip Rocker — the shovel bends upwards, the middle and tail keep a camber shape.
- Base: P-Tex 2100 sintered base; metal tip protector; factory tune 1.4° / 87.6°.
- System: vMotion 3 GW interface pre-mounted, Marker vMotion 11 GW (80 mm) binding included.
- Dimensions: 124-73-103 mm in all lengths; radius 12.0 / 12.9 / 13.9 / 14.8 / 15.8 m for 153 / 158 / 163 / 168 / 173 cm.
- Weight: Völkl only publishes the weight per ski with binding (2560–3130 g); no bare-ski figure.
Who it's for & comparisons
The SRC suits intermediate to advanced piste skiers who want slalom-style short turns with a forgiving entry and a ready-to-ski binding package. Within the Racetiger family the Volkl Racetiger sl is the sharper, narrower (67 mm) race-carver for stronger skiers, the Volkl Racetiger sc is the 68 mm slalom carver with a similar 10–15 m radius spread, and the Volkl Racetiger MC is the 71 mm multi-radius carver (14.5–16 m) for longer turns. Outside Völkl, the Head Worldcup rebels e sl (68 mm, 10.5–13.7 m) and the Rossignol Hero elite st ti (68 mm, 11–14 m) are the direct slalom-carver cross-shops; both are narrower and more race-oriented than the 73 mm SRC.
Pros, cons and verdict
Pros
- Slalom geometry with tip rocker for quick, forgiving turn entry.
- Titanal Band and full sidewall give real edge grip without a race-stiff feel.
- 73 mm waist adds stability on softer or cut-up piste snow.
- Five lengths from 153 to 173 cm, binding and plate included.
Cons
- Heavy as a package: 2.5–3.1 kg per ski with binding.
- System binding limits binding choice and mounting options.
- Strictly a piste ski — nothing for powder, bumps or park.
- Less bite on ice than the full-titanal Racetiger SL.
Verdict: The Racetiger SRC is the accessible slalom carver in Völkl's race line: slalom shape, tip rocker and a Titanal Band in a ready-mounted package. Choose it if you want short-turn fun on groomers without the demands of the SL; step up to the SL if you ski hard and fast on ice.
