Montero ar pro review
Detailed review of the Stöckli Montero AR Pro: 128-84-114 all-mountain, Titec aluminium top, racing sidewalls, race base. Feel, pros, cons and specs.
Overview
The Montero AR Pro is new for 26/27 and sits at the top of Stöckli's Montero all-mountain line, above the Montero AR it is derived from. The geometry is shared with the AR: 128-84-114 mm in every length, with a radius that runs from 14.2 m at 165 cm to 18.4 m at 185 cm. What the Pro adds comes from the race room: a Titec aluminium top layer with the graphics printed directly on the metal, Racing Sidewalls Black and a Race Base with a higher graphite content. Stöckli lists it at 3.52–4.20 kg per pair, so 1,760–2,100 g per ski, and sells it flat on stoeckli.ch from 1,499 EUR, with a Strive 13D D92 binding offered as an option.
On-snow performance
On paper this is the Montero AR with a stiffer, more direct chassis. The phenol sidewalls with harder resin and carbon black are there for faster power transfer to the edge, and the Full Edge Contact shape moves the widest points forward and back so more edge bites once the ski is tilted. The construction suggests a ski that rewards a committed, forward stance on hard snow: strong grip at 14–18 m radii, calm at speed, quick from edge to edge for an 84 mm waist. Flex Torsion Control, an S-shaped notch in the aluminium at tip and tail, keeps the ends torsionally softer, which is why initiation should feel easier than the metal content implies. Off the groomers, the All Mountain Rocker (70 mm high over 400 mm) and the extended Tail Rocker give enough float and release for cut-up snow and the odd powder morning, but at 84 mm and around 2 kg per ski this remains a piste-first all-mountain ski, not a freeride tool.

Who it's for & comparisons
The AR Pro is for strong advanced and expert skiers who spend most of their time on prepared slopes, ski fast, and want one 84 mm ski with race-derived precision rather than a soft all-rounder. If you ski at moderate speeds or want more forgiveness, the standard Stockli Montero ar gives you the same sidecut and radii with the regular Montero build, and the Stockli Montero ar classic does the same in last year's graphics at a lower price. Outside Stöckli, the Head Supershape e titan is the closest 84 mm hard-snow specialist, the Kästle MX84 is the other premium metal 84 from the Alps, and the Volkl Mantra 84 and Blizzard Anomaly 84 are heavier-hitting all-mountain alternatives with more off-piste intent.
Pros, cons and verdict
Pros
- Racing Sidewalls Black and Race Base for direct power transfer and glide.
- Full Edge Contact and Flex Torsion Control: strong grip with easy initiation.
- Five lengths from 165 to 185 cm, each with its own radius (14.2–18.4 m).
- Swiss-made Titec aluminium build with a premium finish.
Cons
- At 1,499 EUR for the ski alone it sits in the top price tier.
- 1.9–2.1 kg per ski in the longer lengths is heavy for an all-mountain ski.
- The racing hardware demands speed and a forward stance to come alive.
- Sold flat; adding the Strive 13D D92 binding costs another 350 EUR.
Verdict: The Montero AR Pro turns the Montero AR into a hard-snow precision tool: same 128-84-114 shape, stiffer race-derived chassis. Experts who carve fast groomers and occasionally stray off-piste will love it; everyone else is better served by the regular AR.
