Overview

The Stance Pro W 88 is the wider and more powerful women's ski in Salomon's Stance Pro family. It pairs a karuba-and-poplar woodcore with Salomon's Double Ti construction — two layers of titanal — and is aimed at experienced women who want a stable all-mountain ski that still carves hard on groomers. For 26-27 it is sold as a flat ski (no binding) in four lengths: 154, 161, 168 and 174 cm. Retail listings give Austria as the country of manufacture.

On-snow performance

At 88 mm underfoot, with a radius of 17 m in the 154 and 161 and 18 m in the 168 and 174, the W 88 prefers medium to long arcs over very tight short swings. The Rocker/Camber/Rocker profile — about 15% tip and 12% tail rocker with camber underfoot — makes it easy to tip onto edge and helps it through soft snow and bumps, while the double titanal lay-up keeps it planted when the piste gets firm or chopped up.

Published reviews describe it as quick edge to edge for an 88, grippy on hard snow and supportive when conditions deteriorate through the day. They also describe it as fairly stiff compared with other 88 mm all-mountain skis, so it rewards an active, confident skier and can feel demanding at slow speeds. Off the piste it offers more float than the narrower W 82, but it remains a groomer-and-crud ski rather than a powder tool.

Construction & specs explained

  • Core: karuba and poplar woodcore — poplar for dynamism, stability and snow contact with vibration damping, karuba to save weight.
  • Double Ti: two titanal layers that add stiffness, edge hold on hard snow and a lively, responsive feel through the turn.
  • Twin Frame 2: Salomon lists its Twin Frame 2 design as part of the sandwich construction.
  • Profile: Rocker/Camber/Rocker.
  • Dimensions: 118/88/100 mm (154), 120/88/102 (161), 122/88/104 (168), 126/90/108 (174) — the longest length grows to a 90 mm waist.
  • Radius: 17 / 17 / 18 / 18 m.
  • Weight: 1450 / 1520 / 1590 / 1660 g per ski.

The weight is moderate for a double-metal ski, and the narrow spread between lengths means even the 154 has a solid, damp feel rather than a featherweight one.

Who it's for & comparisons

The Stance Pro W 88 is built for advanced and expert women who ski fast, like clean arcs on firm snow and want a ski that stays composed when they head into chopped snow or moguls. Strong intermediates can grow into it, but its stiffness asks for good technique.

The Volkl Mantra 88 w follows a similar metal-reinforced recipe with a titanal frame, but starts at 163 cm, while the W 88 reaches down to 154 cm for shorter skiers. The Kästle Sublime 88 W uses two full titanal sheets around a poplar-and-beech core — a premium, very damp alternative. The Armada Antimatter 88 w is the metal-free opposite: lighter and more forgiving, but less calm at speed on hard snow. In Salomon's own range, the Salomon Stance pro w 82 is narrower and more piste-focused with a single Powerflex Ti layer, and the unisex Salomon Stance pro 90 covers longer lengths from 168 cm upward.

Pros, cons and verdict

Pros

  • Double titanal gives strong edge hold and stability on firm and chopped snow.
  • Quick edge to edge for an 88 mm ski.
  • Tip and tail rocker ease turn entry and help in soft snow and bumps.
  • Lengths down to 154 cm make a powerful 88 accessible to shorter skiers.

Cons

  • Stiffer than many 88 mm women's skis, so it can be demanding for intermediates.
  • The 17–18 m radius favours longer turns over tight short swings.
  • Heavier than metal-free 88s, which makes it less suited to touring or long hikes.
  • The longest length is 174 cm, which may be short for tall or heavy skiers.
  • Sold as a flat ski, so the binding adds to the total price.

Verdict: The Stance Pro W 88 is a powerful, double-titanal women's all-mountain ski for confident skiers who put grip and stability first. If you mostly carve and want a ski that stays calm when the snow gets rough, it is a strong choice; if you want something more forgiving, a lighter metal-free 88 is the easier option.
