Nordica Team j r fdt (70-90)

Summary and target rider

The Team JR FDT (70-90) is a child-focused ski designed to build confidence quickly for little skiers learning to turn. It’s aimed at beginners and progressing children who need an easy-to-steer, forgiving tool on groomed runs and mild all-mountain terrain. Soft flex, a short turn radius and a very light build make it an approachable option for ski school use and family days. Parents will appreciate that the ski requires little force to initiate and complete turns, so kids spend more time practicing technique and having fun.

Construction and specs explained

The construction uses a composite cap and a lightweight child-specific core for low mass and predictable flex. The tip measures roughly 102 mm, waist about 67 mm and tail around 89 mm — this shape helps initiate turns easily while keeping sufficient rear platform for stability. The very short radius (around 4 m in the 80 cm length) yields quick, tight turns. Tip rocker with camber underfoot improves forgiveness and rebound. Weight is approximately 645 g per ski, making it simple for children to handle.

On-snow performance

On snow the ski shines in short, playful turns and relaxed carving on soft to medium groomers. Tip rocker smooths turn initiation and reduces hook-ups, while the underfoot camber provides the spring needed to finish turns. Don’t expect high-speed stability or razor-sharp edge hold on hard ice — the soft flex and limited edge length aren’t built for aggressive performance. For short turns, ski school drills and family pistes, however, the Team JR FDT feels natural and encouraging for progression.

Bindings, sizing and practical notes

The ski typically ships as a set with FDT JR bindings mounted on a dedicated FDT plate, which simplifies set-up and compatibility. Available lengths are 70, 80 and 90 cm; choose the length closer to the child’s height for more stability, or the shorter length if you want maximum maneuverability for beginners. Factory bevels (≈0.9° base, ≈87.5° side) are suitable for general use. Regular waxing and binding checks are recommended for safety and consistent performance.

Comparisons, pros & cons and recommendation

Compared with other junior skis the Team JR FDT stands out for lightness and forgiveness rather than raw speed or race-oriented features. It’s comparable to other entry-level junior models that prioritise ease-of-use and progression. Pros: very light, easy turn initiation, tip rocker, soft flex and usually supplied with junior bindings. Cons: limited edge grip and stability on very hard snow and at high speeds. Overall, it’s an excellent choice for parents who want a confidence-building ski for young learners.
