The Spitfire DC 74 FDT is a focused piste ski with race-derived DNA aimed at advanced skiers who prioritise precision and responsiveness on groomers. It pairs a full-camber platform with Nordica’s Dynamic Race Shovel — a slight tip rocker — and is typically sold on an FDT race plate with TPX 12 FDT bindings. With a narrow 74 mm waist and medium-short turn radii, the ski excels in short to medium turns while the multi-radius sidecut balances quick turn initiation with stability at speed.
At the heart of the ski is the Energy Double Core: two wooden cores sandwiching a Pulse Core elastomer, combined with sidewalls for reliable edge hold and durability. This construction dampens chatter while preserving direct feedback. Key specs — tip roughly 121.5–124 mm, waist 74 mm, tail about 101.5–104 mm — plus full camber mean lots of effective edge contact and rebound when loaded. Weight and radius influence handling: shorter lengths are snappier, longer lengths provide more stability at speed and a longer effective edge.
On snow the Spitfire feels lively and communicative; it delivers precise carve performance thanks to its race-inspired geometry and the damping from the Pulse Core. The multi-radius sidecut allows you to attack both short, aggressive carves and longer GS-like lines with confidence, and the base/side edge angles induce solid bite on hardpack. Compared with similar narrow, piste-focused skis it offers more damping and stability than pure slalom shapes but is more direct than wider all-mountain models. It is, however, less forgiving in soft, unpacked snow.
The FDT plate and the factory-mounted TPX 12 FDT bindings are useful for riders wanting tool-free fore/aft adjustment and a race-like connection to the ski. Be mindful that the plate system affects boot sole and mounting considerations, so check compatibility with your boots and DIN needs. Who will appreciate this ski? Strong intermediates, sporty advanced riders and club racers who spend most of their time on groomers will benefit most. Beginners or skiers who prioritise versatility in powder may find it restrictive.
In summary, the Spitfire DC 74 FDT is a thoughtfully engineered piste weapon offering directness, damping and precise turn control. Length choice matters: go shorter (160–165 cm) for agility and quicker steering, longer (170–175 cm) for stability at speed and a longer effective edge. Main trade-offs are limited off-piste versatility and a relatively demanding personality for less aggressive riders. If you want a race-influenced groomer ski with modern plate functionality, it deserves serious consideration.
