Multipista dc 80 ti fdt review
Review of the Nordica Multipista DC 80 Ti FDT: Energy Ti Double Core, 80 mm waist, multi-radius sidecut. Feel, pros, cons.
Overview
The Multipista DC 80 Ti FDT — sold in North America as the Dobermann Multipista 80 DC — is the new, wider member of Nordica's Multipista family for 26/27. Nordica's pitch is a ski that "can do everything, and do it well": the tip and tail shapes come from its all-mountain skis, the core and feel from the race-bred Dobermann line, and the 80 mm waist is chosen as the middle ground between quick edge changes and stability in mixed snow. It comes as a system ski on the FDT Race Plate N with a TPX 12 FDT binding (DIN 4–12), in six lengths from 160 to 185 cm.
On-snow performance
On paper this is a carver that does not want to be locked to the groomer. The Multi Radius Sidecut uses slalom-ski geometry at the tip and tail and GS-ski geometry in the middle, so the shovel should hook up quickly at turn entry while the longer middle section keeps the ski calm once it is on edge. Radii run from 14 m at 160 cm to 17 m at 185 cm, which puts the mid lengths in an easy medium-turn range rather than a pure slalom or GS shape. The Energy Ti Double Core — two stacked wood cores with a Titanal layer and Nordica's Pulse Core elastomer between them — is there to soak up vibration, so expect a smooth, planted ride on hard morning snow. Nordica lists the profile as full camber, so it will not pivot or float like an all-mountain ski with real rocker; the 80 mm waist simply gives it more support in chopped-up afternoon snow than the narrower Multipista models.
Construction & specs explained
Construction: Energy Ti DC (Double Core Titanal). Materials per Nordica: Performance Wood + Metal + Pulse Core + Sidewall. The Pulse Core is an elastomer layer that sits between the two wood cores together with the Titanal sheet. Factory edge angles are 0.9° base and 87.5° side. The FDT Race Plate N has a bridge structure for power transfer and a Fast Demo Track for tool-free length adjustment. Dimensions grow slightly with length, from 123-80-101 mm at 160 cm to 127-80-105 mm at 185 cm (125-80-103 mm at 175 cm). Nordica's published pair weights work out to 1600 g per ski at 160 cm, 1830 g at 175 cm and 2030 g at 185 cm.
Who it's for & comparisons
A confident intermediate to advanced skier who spends most days on piste but wants one ski that still behaves when the snow turns soft and uneven. Against the Nordica Spitfire dc 80 pro fdt — the same width in Nordica's previous range — the Multipista pairs the DC concept with all-mountain tip and tail shapes and a multi-radius sidecut. The Elan Wingman 80 ti is a similar-width metal piste ski with a more all-mountain character, and the K2 Disruption 78Ti is a slightly narrower, carving-focused alternative. Skiers who stay on hard groomers almost all day will find the narrower Nordica Multipista dc 74 ti fdt quicker from edge to edge.
Pros, cons and verdict
Pros
- Energy Ti Double Core with Pulse Core elastomer for a damp, smooth ride.
- Multi Radius Sidecut blends quick turn entry with mid-turn stability.
- 80 mm waist gives more support in soft or chopped snow than a 74 mm carver.
- Six lengths from 160 to 185 cm.
- Tool-free length adjustment through the FDT Race Plate N.
Cons
- System ski: the plate and TPX 12 FDT binding come fixed, so no touring set-up.
- Full camber means little float or pivot off piste.
- Titanal construction is more demanding than entry-level piste skis.
- Heavier than lightweight all-mountain skis of the same width.
Verdict: A versatile, damp 80 mm piste ski for skiers who want race-derived edge grip in the morning and composure on worked-over snow in the afternoon — the all-rounder of the Multipista family.
