The Wildcat Tour 118 is a lightweight, powder-focused touring ski built for riders who want playful freeride performance on deep days with minimal uphill penalty. Its Mustache Rocker profile — rockered tip and tail with camber underfoot — gives strong float and an agile, surfy feel, while the cambered midsection provides edge hold and rebound for turn exits. This ski targets backcountry days where floatability and low weight matter most, offering lively personality without sacrificing the touring efficiency essential for long approaches.
Construction favors weight savings without leaving all the stability behind. A full-length vertically laminated paulownia and ash core keeps mass down and provides a lively flex; the LowFat carbon hybrid layup adds stiffness selectively for rebound and edge response. ABS sidewalls and a 2.2 mm hardened Euro edge add durability; the 7500-series carbon-infused sintered base boosts speed and durability. Spec notes: Mustache Rocker (float and maneuverability), 143/118/133 mm tip/waist/tail (float, turn initiation, and release), 25–27 m radius (medium-long turns), and 3.3–3.9 kg per pair (weight affects uphill effort).
On snow the ski punches above its weight in deep snow and variable conditions. In powder the wide tip and rockered tail offer excellent float and a surf-like carving feel; the dual-radius sidecut helps with both quick turn initiation and controlled exits. At speed the VDS damping and carbon layup provide surprising stability, though on hard icy pistes the Wildcat Tour 118 can feel less planted than heavier, more traditionally cambered big-mountain skis. Overall it’s playful in soft snow and confident enough to handle mixed lines.
For uphill performance the Wildcat Tour 118 is a strong choice due to low published weights (3.3 kg per pair for 174 cm). The progressive shape and Mustache Rocker make kick-turns and bootpacking easier, and the reduced swing weight keeps long ascents less fatiguing. The manufacturer’s -6 cm recommended mount gives a more surfy, playful stance that helps in powder but some riders may prefer a slightly more centered mount for skinning efficiency and technical bootwork on mixed terrain.
Who should buy this ski? The Wildcat Tour 118 suits backcountry riders who prioritize float and playfulness in deep snow while still valuing lightweight uphill performance. Pros: excellent powder float, low weight, effective damping, and durable base/edge package. Cons: less edge bite on hard ice compared with heftier big-mountain skis and slightly less nimble in very tight trees. It sits comfortably among light 118 mm-class touring freeride skis but stands out for its surfy character and modern low-weight layup.
