Overview
The Phoenix 76 CA is the middle ski of Blizzard's Phoenix women's on-piste line for 26/27, sold as a system with the FDT Free Short Plate and the TPC11 Demo W binding (DIN 3–11). Like the 72 CA it is the no-titanal "CA" build around Blizzard's Trueblend Piste woodcore and a W.S.D. partial sidewall, but the extra 4 mm underfoot and a slightly longer sidecut shift it from pure carving lessons towards relaxed all-day piste skiing. Blizzard lists 122-76-102 mm at 145 cm and 125-76-105 mm at 165 cm, with radii from 11 m (145 cm) to 14 m (170 cm), and describes it as a stable, versatile carver that still feels comfortable on the last run of the day.
On-snow performance
The spec sheet points to a calm, forgiving groomer ski rather than a sharp slalom carver. The 11–14 m radii are a touch longer than the 72 CA's, which together with the wider platform should make the ski feel more planted and less hurried at medium speed; Blizzard's own description stresses that it works whether you ski fast or slow and prefer long turns. The Trueblend Piste core keeps the centre firmer for grip while the softer tip and tail ease turn entry, and the 3 mm tip rocker helps the ski find the turn on softer, chopped-up afternoon snow. Without titanal the construction suggests the same limits as the 72 CA: a light, easy ski that will start to feel nervous when a strong skier drives it hard on ice. The 76 mm waist gives a little more support in slush and soft piste edges than the 72, but this is still not an off-piste ski.
Construction & specs explained
- Construction: W.S.D. Sandwich Partial Sidewall (Women Specific Design, Blizzard's W2W programme).
- Core: Trueblend Piste Woodcore, two wood species in three flex zones: firmer centre, control zones around the binding, softer tip and tail.
- Metal: none; the CA build has no titanal layer.
- Sidewall: Partial ABS.
- Profile: 3 mm Rocker, a low early-rise tip over camber.
- Plate and binding: FDT Free Short Plate with the TPC11 Demo W, DIN 3–11, supplied together.
- Dimensions: 122-76-102 mm (145 cm), 125-76-105 mm (165 cm); radius 11 / 11.5 / 12 / 12.5 / 13 / 14 m at 145 / 150 / 155 / 160 / 165 / 170 cm.
- Weight: 1,250 g per ski at 145 cm (Blizzard lists 2,500 g per pair); the complete system weighs about 3,000 g per pair at 165 cm.
- Factory tune: 0.9° base, 87.5° side edge.
Who it's for & comparisons
Blizzard aims the 76 CA at beginners who want an easy-steering ski and at intermediate to advanced women who are comfortable on groomed runs and want solid edge control without a demanding ski. It is the pick over the 72 CA if you ski a little faster, prefer medium turns or spend time on softer pistes. The Head Real Joy (75 mm) is the closest cross-shop: also a wood-cored women's system ski for progressing intermediates. The Elan Element 78 w (75–78 mm) is a similarly accessible system ski that leans a little more towards mixed snow, and the Rossignol Nova 8 (75 mm) is a light women's carver with a slight tip rocker and 10–13 m radii. Inside Blizzard's range, the Blizzard Black Pearl 82 adds a Fluxform titanal piece and a wider waist for women who want more all-mountain range.
Pros, cons and verdict
Pros
- Easy, forgiving Trueblend Piste woodcore with no metal to fight.
- 76 mm waist adds stability and support on soft or uneven pistes.
- 11–14 m radii suit relaxed medium turns at moderate speed.
- Six lengths from 145 to 170 cm and an included TPC11 Demo W binding.
Cons
- No titanal, so it has a clear speed ceiling on hard snow.
- System plate and binding limit your binding choice.
- Less quick edge to edge than the 72 CA for short-turn carving.
- Advanced skiers will want the TI version or a stiffer ski.
Verdict: The Phoenix 76 CA is the relaxed all-day option in Blizzard's women's piste line: forgiving, stable at moderate speed and easy to steer. Choose it over the 72 CA for medium turns and softer pistes, and look at the Black Pearl 82 if you want off-piste range.
