The Redster S7 is a frontside specialist built for skiers who love quick, precise slalom‑style turns on groomers. It rewards an active, centered stance with crisp turn initiation and a lively finish, yet it remains approachable for progressing intermediates who want to sharpen carving skills. Compared with the S8, it’s a touch more forgiving and less demanding, while offering far more bite and precision than an all‑rounder like the X7. If your days are mostly corduroy and you value rhythm, edge hold, and clean arcs, this ski feels purpose‑built.
On firm morning snow the S7 snaps into the fall line with minimal input and locks onto an edge reliably. The tight sidecut encourages short, rhythmic turns, and the cambered profile keeps the entire effective edge engaged for powerful grip. It prefers being tipped and pressured rather than skidded; keep it on edge and it hums. At moderate speeds it is impressively calm for its class. Push it very hard and you’ll find the performance ceiling earlier than on top‑tier race room models, but for daily piste laps it is plenty energetic.
Stability comes from a classic recipe: a Power Woodcore of ash and poplar for rebound, a TI Powered laminate for torsional stiffness and damping, and a Dura Cap Sidewall that adds bite and durability from base to topsheet. The sintered base feels quick and holds wax well, while the reinforced tip resists chipping from lift lines. Feedback through the boot is clear without being harsh, and vibration control is notably better than many mid‑price carvers. The tradeoff is a slightly heavier swing weight than ultra‑light piste skis, which some skiers actually prefer.
Key numbers explain the ride. In 163 cm, the 111.5‑70‑100 mm sidecut and 13.4 m radius deliver rapid edge‑to‑edge transitions and tight carved turns. Active Camber 0/100/0 keeps maximum edge contact for bite and lively rebound. The reported weight of about 2548 g per ski (163 cm) contributes to a planted feel and smooth tracking on chatter. Available lengths 149/156/163/170 cm let you tune behavior: shorter for quicker slalom snaps, longer for extra stability. The included binding package on many setups adds convenience and stance adjustability without dulling the ski’s response.
Choose a length that matches intent and technique. If you prioritize lightning‑fast slalom turns or are lighter, size down; if you’re heavier or want more stability for higher‑speed carving, size up. Versus the S8, expect less top‑end power but easier access to performance; versus the X7, expect stronger edge hold and a more focused on‑piste personality. Limitations are clear: the 70 mm waist and full camber aren’t built for soft snow or bumps, and it asks you to stay engaged. For groomer‑first skiers, the value‑to‑performance ratio is excellent.
