Overview
For 26-27 Armada folds its Declivity and Reliance skis into the new Antimatter line. The Antimatter 82 W is the former Reliance 82 C, carried over with a new name and new graphics. The construction stays the same: a light Caruba wood core with full-length carbon, aimed at women who spend most of their day on groomers. Armada calls it "a more serious side of Armada" — built for high-speed frontside skiing on firm snow, with a progressive shape that still copes with mixed conditions. It comes in 150, 158 and 166 cm; the 174 cm length of the Reliance is gone. At 1265-1465 g per ski, it is light for an 82 mm frontside ski.
On-snow performance
On paper, the Antimatter 82 W is a quick, precise carver. Radii of 14.2 m at 150 cm, 14.9 m at 158 cm and 15.4 m at 166 cm point to short to medium turns that come easily as soon as the ski is tipped on edge. The EST All-Mtn Rocker profile — slight tip rocker, camber underfoot, subtle tail rocker — gives easy turn entry, while the long cambered section keeps grip on hard snow. Carbon adds rebound between turns, so the character is energetic rather than heavy. The trade-off is by design: without titanal, the ski has less mass to calm vibrations in chopped or icy snow at very high speed. Armada's flex rating of 6.0 out of 10 places it in the middle — supportive enough for strong intermediates and advanced skiers, but not a stiff race-style plank. Off-piste, the 82 mm waist and tip rocker help in a thin layer of soft snow and on short excursions, but this is mainly a groomer ski.
Construction & specs explained
Armada builds the Antimatter 82 W around its Caruba Core, which the brand describes as its lightest wood core, chosen to keep power and damping while cutting weight. Full-length carbon construction adds stiffness and energy along the ski. The AR100 Sidewall runs the full length of the ski for maximum torsional rigidity and edge hold, and the heat-treated 2.1 All Mountain Edge balances durability and feel. Dimensions are 122/82/106.6 mm at 150 cm, 124/82/108 at 158 and 126/82/109 at 166 cm. Weights are 1265, 1370 and 1465 g per ski. That low weight reduces swing weight and fatigue, and it makes the ski easy to carry.
Who it's for & comparisons
It suits intermediate to advanced women who ski mostly on piste, want a lively and light carver, and value precision over maximum damping. If you know the Armada Reliance 82 c, this is the same ski in new graphics, so buy on price and availability. The unisex Armada Antimatter 82 is a different build: a poplar core with titanal, lengths from 166 to 182 cm and 1550-1725 g per ski — more planted, but heavier and more demanding. The Volkl Mantra 84 w uses a titanal frame and weighs 1560 g at 156 cm, so it trades the Armada's lightness for more damping. The Blizzard Black Pearl 82 has a partial titanal piece underfoot, tighter radii in its short lengths (11.5 m at 145 cm) and a wider length range.
Pros, cons and verdict
Pros
- Very light for a frontside ski: 1265-1465 g per ski.
- Tight radii (14.2-15.4 m) for quick, easy carving.
- Full-length AR100 sidewall and carbon for precise edge hold.
- Tip rocker keeps it manageable in mixed conditions.
Cons
- Without titanal, less damping on ice and in chopped snow at high speed.
- Only three lengths, with 166 cm as the longest.
- The 82 mm waist limits float in deeper snow.
- Skiers who want a heavy, planted carver should look at rivals with metal.
Verdict: The Antimatter 82 W is the proven Reliance 82 C under a new name: a light, precise and energetic women's frontside carver. For skiers who want easy speed on groomers without titanal weight, it is one of the most sensible choices in the 82 mm class.
