Versatility: the Shift2 accepts alpine boots
The Shift2's alpine toe is multi-norm — ISO 5355, ISO 23223 GripWalk, and ISO 9523 touring all work in the same toe. You can run one ski across an alpine boot for resort days and a tech-insert boot for tour days. The Tecton is tech-insert-only; pin boots required. If you're running a single dedicated touring boot, this doesn't matter; if you want a one-ski-two-boots setup, only the Shift2 supports it.
Durability: tied
Fritschi has refined the Tecton heel over three generations; current Tecton 13 is well-regarded for long-term durability. The Shift2 has a long retail track record. Neither is the binding that fails.
