Three more Alpine ski areas open on Saturday 7 November 2026. Verbier starts weekend skiing on the Lac des Vaux piste, Cervino SpA opens the first pistes on the Italian side of the Matterhorn with a €42 day pass, and Glacier 3000 above Les Diablerets returns to daily operation after its autumn revision. A front from the west brings 10–20 cm above 2,000 m to Valais and the Aosta Valley on Friday night.

In short

  • Verbier opens the Lac des Vaux piste on Saturday 7 November, weekends only through November, after a Halloween start was put off for lack of cold.
  • Breuil-Cervinia opens its Italian pistes on 7 November: Plan Maison and Fornet chairlifts, day pass €42, 30 % off with four nights until 4 December.
  • Glacier 3000 reopens daily from 7 November after its revision of 19 October–6 November; ski day pass CHF 84, first cable car at 8:30.
  • Forecast: 13–17 cm at Cervinia, Verbier and Zermatt by Sunday 8 November, snow line down to 1,500–1,800 m, then milder from Monday 9 November.

Verbier: one piste, weekends only, coffee at Médran

Téléverbier announced the opening in a press release on Thursday 5 November: "During the whole month of November, the lifts will run only at weekends. Depending on the weather and the snow cover, other pistes and lifts may gradually complete the offer." Four lifts run, from the Le Châble gondola to the Lac des Vaux 1 chairlift. The first skiers on Saturday morning get a free coffee and croissant, and day passes carry an early-season rate on every November weekend.

Le Nouvelliste and Rhône FM reported the same day that the Lac des Vaux piste is the only one open for now; the main sectors follow on 5 December, with the season ending on 25 April 2027, per PlanetSKI. Snow-Forecast.com wrote on 5 November: "The resort delayed its planned Halloween opening due to warm, dry weather, but recent sub-zero temperatures and fresh snowfall have allowed operations to begin." Verbier is the eighth Swiss area open for 2026/27.

Cervinia: €42 for the Italian side, 30 % off with four nights

Cervino SpA, the lift company of Breuil-Cervinia, confirmed the Italian-side opening in a statement carried by Gazzetta Matin on 3 November: after the first descents on the Plateau Rosa glacier above 3,500 m, skiers return to the Italian slopes from Saturday 7 November. The company said its staff was finishing "the first kilometres of piste" with the snow of the previous weeks and that "only in the coming days will the openings be defined." On Thursday 5 November the Plan Maison and Fornet chairlifts with pistes 6.0 and 6.00 were confirmed, DiscoveryAlps reported.

The forecast: 10–20 cm above 2,000 m, then milder

Snow-Forecast.com expects a colder front late on Friday 6 November, snow lines of 1,600–1,700 m in Switzerland and 1,500–2,000 m in Italy, and 10–20 cm above 2,000 m in the Jungfrau region, Valais and central Switzerland; Austria stays mostly dry. SnowBrains put it this way on 5 November: "Friday brings the main precipitation, followed by colder temperatures and a Saturday taper."

The snow level starts at 2,000–2,200 m and falls to 1,500–1,800 m on Friday night. OpenSnow was more cautious on 4 November: "A weak ridge of high pressure will move in this weekend and keep things mostly dry through the early part of next week." All three services agree on Monday 9 November: milder air, freezing level back to 2,200–2,500 m, and no large storm before the middle of November.

What this means for your skis

Every area in this piece opens with one to three groomed pistes on a firm base, with at best 15 cm of fresh snow on top from Saturday. That is carving terrain. A ski between 76 and 84 mm underfoot with a metal layer holds an edge on the hard morning surface and still turns short on a crowded single piste: the Blizzard Thunderbird R15 82, the Head Supershape e-Rally, the Elan Wingman 83 Ti and the Atomic Redster Q7 are the type. Our top-5 carving skis list compares more of them, and the Pick-a-Ski tool sets the length for your weight and level.
