Overview

The Firebird HRC is the all-round model of Blizzard's Firebird race-carve trio, between the long-turn WRC and the short-turn SRC. For 26/27 it is a system ski with the FDT Race Plate Pro B and the Marker Comp13 Demo binding, offered in two colourways of the same ski. The 121-69-102 mm sidecut is identical in every length, and the radius grows from 13 m at 160 cm through 14, 15 and 15.8 m to 16.5 m at 180 cm. Blizzard sums it up as "race performance and versatility in one — everything from short to long turns is possible". Weights run from 1,600 g per ski at 160 cm to 1,950 g at 180 cm.

On-snow performance

On paper the HRC is the Firebird most people can actually use all day. The 13–16.5 m radius range means a 170 cm ski at 15 m will carve medium arcs and still shorten up or stretch out when asked, and the wide 121 mm tip and 102 mm tail should make turn entry and exit quicker than the WRC's narrower shape. The construction is the same race package as its siblings: full camber, "3Ti Racing" with three stiffness zones tuned to the Trueblend Race core, and a triple titanal sandwich sidewall. That spells hard-snow grip and damping at speed; it also means the HRC is not a soft ski — at 1,770 g per ski at 170 cm plus plate and binding it wants to be driven with pressure and a forward stance. The FDT Race Plate Pro B lets the ski flex under the binding while adding leverage. Soft snow and bumps are tolerated at best; the 69 mm waist and full camber are built for groomed pistes.

Construction & specs explained

  • Core: Trueblend Race Woodcore — several wood species of different density; firmer centre, medium around the binding, softer tip and tail.
  • Metal: "3Ti Racing" construction — three stiffness zones matched to the Trueblend Race flex zones, in a triple titanal sandwich compound sidewall construction.
  • Sidewall: Full ABS.
  • Factory edge tune: 0.9° base, 87.5° side.
  • Profile: Full Camber.
  • Plate and binding: FDT Race Plate Pro B (metal bridge, Marker FDT demo-binding options) with the Comp13 Demo binding, DIN 5–13.
  • Dimensions: 121-69-102 mm in all lengths; radius 13 m (160), 14 m (165), 15 m (170), 15.8 m (175), 16.5 m (180).
  • Weight: 1,600 g (160), 1,660 g (165), 1,770 g (170), 1,870 g (175) and 1,950 g (180) per ski, from Blizzard's per-pair figures.
  • Made in Austria.

Who it's for & comparisons

The HRC is for advanced and expert piste skiers who want one race carver for every turn shape, with the binding included. In the Blizzard range it sits below the new Blizzard Firebird race type mt (phenol sidewalls, no binding) and above the Blizzard Thunderbird r15 (69.5 mm), the friendlier piste carver. Outside Blizzard, the Rossignol Hero elite st ti (68 mm, 11–14 m) is the softer, more playful all-round race carver, the Kästle RX11 (68 mm) the premium alternative, the Atomic Redster g8 (69 mm) the GS-leaning rival, and the Nordica Dobermann multigara dc fdt (70 mm, 14–16.6 m) the closest "one race ski for all radii" concept on a demo plate.

Pros, cons and verdict

Pros

  • 13–16.5 m radius across five lengths covers short to long turns.
  • 3Ti Racing construction and Trueblend Race core for grip and stability.
  • FDT Race Plate Pro B with Comp13 Demo: adjustable and ready to ski.
  • Same sidecut in every length makes sizing predictable.

Cons

  • System binding: the Comp13 Demo (DIN 5–13) is the only option.
  • Stiff race construction demands pressure and technique.
  • No soft-snow or bump ability at 69 mm with full camber.
  • €1,100 for a groomer-only ski.

Verdict: The HRC is the Firebird to buy if you want one race carver for all radii and a binding in the box. Go to the SRC for slalom rhythm, the WRC for pure GS arcs, or the Race Type MT if you want phenol sidewalls and your own binding.
